Following the entry into force of the FAO Agreement on Port State Measures (PSMA) in 2016, ATLAFCO wished to give a new impetus to its Member States by promoting a regional strategy supporting improvement of the effectiveness and of the efficiency of port controls, to the detriment of those who continue to engage in IUU fishing despite all measures already implemented by African States.
Under this framework, F&S was selected by ATLAFCO to carry out a study which included a review of the state of play, the identification of best practices, and a proposal for a regional programme for harmonisation of port inspections.
The study report was completed in early 2018, and is now published on the ATLAFCO website.
